The Long and Winding Road...
With a holiday approaching, my older brother sent this video to me. He's a life-long Beatles fan, but as soon as I heard the first line in the song, "Once there was a way to get back homeward", I knew that he didn't send it for entertainment purposes. It's a medley of "Golden Slumbers, Carry that Weight, and The End". He sent it because we are still grieving over my mom's recent passing on May 6, 2021. She was one of the healthiest people I've ever known and we weren't expecting her to pass away. My sister and I had been talking to her only an hour before and we had no idea that would be the last time we'd talk to her. Even though several weeks have passed and time has moved forward and I have moved on with it, there's a huge part of me that is still standing in the Emergency Room entrance of hospital saying, "No! This can't be happening."
I learned on this holiday that we can't always go "home" again and I don't expect to ever really get over it...
GOLDEN SLUMBERS
Once there was a way to get back homeward
Once there was a way to get back home
Sleep pretty darling, do not cry
And I will sing a lullaby
Golden slumbers fill your eyes
Smiles await you when you rise
Sleep pretty darling, do not cry
And I will sing a lullaby
Once there was a way to get back homeward
Once there was a way to get back home
Sleep pretty darling, do not cry
And I will sing a lullaby
CARRY THAT WEIGHT
Boy, you're gonna carry that weight,
Carry that weight a long time
Boy, you're gonna carry that weight
Carry that weight a long time
I never give you my pillow
I only send you my invitations
And in the middle of the celebrations
I break down
Boy, you're gonna carry that weight
Carry that weight a long time
Boy, you're gonna carry that weight
Carry that weight a long time
THE END
Oh yeah, all right
Are you gonna be in my dreams tonight?
Love you, love you, love you...
And in the end, the love you take
Is equal to the love you make
My mom began her life as a daughter and sister, and grew to be a wife, a mother, a grandmother, a great-grandmother...She also was a friend to many, a retired counselor, a church pianist/Sunday School teacher, a world traveler, and much more!
She accomplished a lot and I could easily write an interesting book about her life! She was a strong woman and always cared about others. She helped everyone she came in contact with, especially her 3 children, grandchild, and 4 grandchildren.
She was loved by many and what a great thing to be remembered for- what a legacy to leave...What we say and do with the time we have in this life is very important. Not everyone can say they care for and have a positive influence on others, but we have a great responsibility for the impact we make on others.
I guess I've lived long enough to now to offer some advice to others:
About home- Cherish it and the person or persons who make it home while you can because a day may come when you can't go back "home" again.
About the real burdens of life- there are some that we simply have to learn to carry and endure
About the real MAGIC of life- the only real HOPE, JOY, and FULFILLMENT we have in life- "In the end, the love you take is equal to the love you MAKE."
